Two in one day!

My son and I just came back from Kicking and Screaming, starring Will Ferrell. It's pretty good, not as good as Elf, but still good. I would say you should wait a few months until it is on dvd and watch it then.
We were going to see Star Wars, but the kid saw it last week at a birthday party and wants to see it alittle later. Fine by me!
Last evening my wife and I saw In Good Company, with Dennis Quaid and the guy from the 70s show, Topher Grace. Good movie, rent it!

A few post back I was telling about the guy who overdosed on cocaine. It got me thinking about this situation I was in with this guy.
About 20 years ago I used to be into heavy duty partying. Lot's of dope smoking, too much drinking, chemical use and not enough women.
A bunch of us were at this party then. This coke fellow was there and we were partying together. I left my drink to go bathroom and came back a few minutes later. Everyone was snickering and I kind of wondered what was up. I finished my drink and went to get another and this fellow followed me. He then told me he spiked my drink with speed.
I thought he was kidding, he wasn't!
I apparently took quite abit. I was up all night completely stoned out of my mind.
I actually enjoyed it and that scared me.
Never took it or chemicals ever again.
Sidebar to the speed story. After sunrise I went home, by walking. I was staggering when I hit a crack in the sidewalk. I went flying into a bush and all I could think of was "I wish I was home."
A few minutes of me lying there went by when I pulled myself up and lo and behold, a police cruiser is right there.
I walked over and asked the cop to give me a ride home. I got in the car and he asked me where I had been and if I had a car. I told him kind of where( I didn't exactly remember) and my car was parked.
He went looking for my car, found it and then drove me home. 3 houses from mine he let me out and I walked the rest.(mothers don't like it when their sons get out of police cruisers in front of their houses)
I woke up about 10 hours later feeling the worse I think I ever had.
Ahhhh, good times!

Escaping

This evening my sister in law is having an engagement party for her friend. Up to 60 people are attending in a 2000 foot house with no air conditioning. Oh yea, kids are included as well.
She wants her sister(my wife) to help and she is. My son and I were kind of informally invited, but I'm passing. The kid and I are going to hang tonight, maybe see Star Wars.
My excuse, too hot, don't know hardly anyone and not really invited. Nice escape eh?
We lent them our outside chairs, so it was an excuse to scrub everything clean and not put it off. The furniture looked alot nicer when washed, so I was happy.
This afternoon I did some gardening for an hour. It was so humid that the inside of my sunglasses were steaming up. That's why I'm in here blogging, to escape the heat and cool down abit.

Dinner is early due to that party. I've been marinating some sirloins for about 24 hours and the bbq is going on in a few minutes. Baked potatoes and carrots, fried onions, mushrooms and cold beer are going with it. I'm getting hungry just typing.

My vacation is coming up soon. My wife has been looking at Ontario resorts, tons of them actually.
The problem with Ontario resorts is that they are bloody expensive. Your looking at a minimum of 1500 dollars fo 5 days for the three of us. It's actually cheaper to go to a Island down south for a week and booze is included. Though we have little money now, there is a slight chance it may happen. we'll see!

Part Three

Another hot one, only 32 degrees today! The beer I'm having right now tastes real good. Sleeman Original Draught!

I'm home at a real good time today, before 5:30pm, which is great for a Friday. The problem right now is the house is empty and there is nothing to eat. I'm hungry for dinner now and the spouse only worked half a day. Where is dinner?
If the roles were reversed, there would be some sort of dinner on the table. I won't say anything to her, just let the guilt get to her.(lol)

Last evening on this show "baby hit me one more time," (or something like that) where the has beens of the music world get up and sing their hit and then a recent cover tune.
Vanilla Ice won and he couldn't even sing his own song well.(an oxymoron if I ever heard one) He was horrible!
The best in my opinion was Adam Ant who sang his song well and his cover pretty well.(a song by Blink 182) He also didn't try to look younger which is the way to go. Trying to look like something your not makes you look like a fool.
The Knack was alright with My Sharona, but their cover suck badly.
The Motels were just the lead singer and she was passable.
The others I don't remember.

This celebrity dance competition on Wednesday night was also a joke.
The one who should of been eliminated was from General Hospital. I don't know her name, but she had barely anything on and has a killer body. I thought it was mostly women voting so I thought she was out, but Trista was voted out. I guess she is annoying to both sexes.

I'm not into reality shows, but I love to watch the musical train wrecks on "Baby hit me one more time."
I put the dance one for my wife and I watched it with her. As soon as the hot chick is gone, I'm not watching anymore.

Part 3 means the third blog in a row about the weather. There will be more I'm sure as the forecast is hot for the next 5 days.
Think winter and appreciate the warmth.

Hot!

We had our third day in a row where the temparture hit 30 degrees(over 85 for you Americans) with no cool days in the forecast for the next 6 days.
We've already had more heat alert days than last year.
2 years ago we purchased a central air conditioner for quite abit of money. We have had it on for maybe a total of 10 days during that time. We put it on today and it's not going off for a while.

Funny how we as Canadians bitch all the time about our winters and then we complain about the heat when summer hasn't even started.
I find it too humid and the black flies are bad in the country.

Enough complaining, I played hockey this evening in his weather. I drank about 14 cups of water all day including hockey, so I feel hydrated.
Yes, I play hockey all year long and most rinks are running for 12 months.
The few that have no ice are open for lacrosse, which I like but wouldn't play, too violent for this old guy.

The last couple blogs I commented on beer and alcohol. I find in this weather I don't drink as much, it doesn't quench my thirst.
I drink alot of water all the time but this time of year I drink gallons of the stuff.
I don't drink juice and not much milk, so it leaves water.

My work offered tickets for the truck drivers to a Blue Jay game and I'm the only one who accepted. I think my boss was alittle pissed that I'm only going, he wanted the jokers to go as well.
This guy doesn't know what to think of me and now he's going to a baseball game with me.
I rather have him not knowing what to think of me, just that I do my job well.(which I do)
The guys he wants are the ones he golfs with and I would rather golf in the middle of the winter than with his buddies. They give me a headache after about 1 hour!
Still it should be interesting to drink beer on his tab. I'll probably suprise him with the amount of beer I can drink. At work I'm quiet and reserved and not many know of my personal life.
One thing that I can do and I'm not proud(nor ashamed)is I can drink vast amounts of beer. My hangovers are worse than in early years, but if I eat and occasionally have water during a night of beer drinking, I can put back about 20 or so.(I don't do this on any sort of regular basis, the last time when I turned 40)
I won't put back anywhere near 20 at this game, but enough to take the train home.

A perfect weather day

I came inside to make dinner, but it was hard to. It is sunny, a few clouds, a slight breeze and about 27 degrees.(80ish for you Americans)
I bought a manual push mower as my yard is small and I thought the wife and kid could do it as well. Today I had to cut it as it was too hard too push. Yeah! Another chore.
My wife went to buy plants for the front garden. She tried to drag me along, but I wouldn't have any part of that. She would have asked my opinion and then ignored it, even though I know more about gardening than her. I said "just buy what you want."
It's that control thing popping up again.
Same thing with the snooping!

We went golfing yesterday and I had a decent game. I only blew up on one hole and birdied the last one. First birdie in a long time. My wife had a lousy game, my guess is she was tired and wasn't concentrating.

We went out for dinner and then to my in laws for drinks and dessert as some out of towners were still lingering from Friday evening.
At 10pm we went home as I was exhausted. My wife says lets go out and do something. I said I'm going to bed, I haven't really stopped since work on Friday. She thought I just wanted sex but I was really tired.(I wouldn't of said no) I did get a good nights sleep.

I was watching the French Open on Saturday morning while eating breakfast. The Belgian lady totally killed the French lady. I always wonder at that level what makes someone chokes and will it affect them in the future?
Ladies tennis is much better to watch according to all the guys I work with. Wonder why they think like that?

I'm off to finish dinner and then fold laundry. A man's work is never done.

More rum and coke!

Not to get anyone's attention, but.....
When I was in Jamaica in March, I must have had 20 or so different types of rum drinks. But you know what, I always came back to rum and coke, it seems to always win out.
I'm a beer drinker by nature. I don't drink alot, mostly for the weight thing, but also I think it is better that my son doesn't see it on a daily basis. That role model business poking its head in my life again.
After hockey I have been having one draft beer, so I can try something different that I can't try at home.
For a long time I was having a pint of Carlsberg Red and now it's a beer called Steawhistle draft. I think it's Canadian, which is usually superior anyways.
Tonight I had a pint of Ricker's Red, which was very good.
All three of these I would recommend.
Here in Canada, we think our beer is better than the American brands. Well it is! We take our beer seriously here and I would say if anyone is in Canada, they should try the beer. My favourite take home beer lately is any brand from a brewer called Sleemans.
The way I'm talking you would think that I'm a fat alcoholic. Well I'm not either, I just enjoy a refreshment at the right times.
Tomorrow after golf with my wife I will have a Mexican beer. Just one and then I drive home.

This evening it was my MIL's 65th birthday. The in-laws were in good moods so everyone had a good time. It was actually nice to see some of the in-law friends, it's been a while.
I gave the digital camera to my 11 year old and told him to take pictures, it was his responsibility. I don't even know anything about that camera because from day one I've let him do everything. That has to change!
Anyways we'll download the pictures tomorrow and e-mail them to family and friends.

Since my wife is snooping again, I have a question for her. When you snoop around, what exactly do you think you will find? When you read this, and you will eventually, please tell me! Remember, we've been together for almost two decades and I've never given you a reason to not trust me, not once, ever.

Enough of that crap!

I watched this show on Thursday evening called "Baby, hit me one more time."(something like that)
It was about groups or singers who were once big and now they are not, can they be big again.
They sang one of their hits and then a cover of a newer popular tune.
3 of them were Loverboy, A Flock Of Seagulls and Tiffany. The other 2 I don't know who they were so I can't comment on them.
Loverboy are old and fat. Really! I think the singer ate the old singer and the guitarist socializes with my parents.
They can still sing their own stuff and the cover wasn't bad.
AFOS were old, bald and fat. They couldn't sing their old hits and the cover suck. They should be embarrassed!
Tiffany looked pregnant! Apparently she is not! Not to sound graphic or sexist, her boobs were huge, like a pregnant woman boobs. My wife thought the same way as well, so it was just not me. Jees, I hope she is pregnant, or she should be embarrassed as well.
Her hit was originally a cover anyways. "I think we're alone now" was the hit. Her cover was sung well, a song by Kelly Clarkson which was a cover by her.
The two who I don't remember or know were the best!
I don't know about you, but if I had millions, along with alot of spare time, I wouldn't be fat. I would hire a personal trainer and a chef and and would work my ass off a couple hours a day. At the least I would have plastic surgery.
These people have egos, it's like they don't care now though.
Next week The Knack and Wang Chung are on among others. Let's see how far they have let themselves go....

Rum and coke

I thought the title would get your attention.
It tastes damn good right now!
Tonight we watched Dumb and Dumber. What a stupid movie, but we all enjoyed it anyways.
After the family went to bed, I watched Blade. Vampire movie, which I enjoy and was pretty good.
A few weeks ago I commented on concert prices. Well today I heard the Whitesnake is coming to town. 48 friggen dollars!!!!! Who do these over the hill, balding geezers think they are? Excuse me, but if they were todays news I would understand, but these dudes haven't had a hit in over 20 years. I hope that they don't sell out! Humble pie time, maybe?
Every year I have to deal with this fellow at work and his golf habit. He goes golfing and I work 15 hours. Not fair and I make sure the bosses know. If all the drivers can get off early for, let's say medical or dentist appointments then I wouldn't say anything.
I guess my complaining worked!
This butt kisser was golfing and I was home at a reasonable hour, the way it should be.
I think this weekend I'm going to make a couple blogs, I've been busy and neglectful lately.

Long weekend

Here in Canada we have a annual holiday the third weekend in May, called Victoria Day.
Yes it is after Queen Victoria and yes hardly anyone knows anything about her.
That's alright, we'll take the long weekend anyway.
Victoria Day is sometimes nicknamed 2/4 weekend, after the size of a case of beer and the approximate date in May.
It is the unofficial start to the cottage season or early summer. It is definitely the start of gardening season, judging the parking lots of the nurseries. I will avoid them this weekend if I can.
I used to camping in my younger years and would party too much and freeze my butt off. I won't do that anymore, I can wait later in the summer.
I also don't need an excuse to drink anymore, though I rarely do anyhow.
The weather here is beautiful this morning and is suppose to hold up all weekend, so here's to a great weekend!

A nice day, considering

I booked today off and got my physical. I'm completely healthy! Yeah!!!!
My blood work is alittle off from a prior virus(the flu)so the doctor is sending me to get more work done to eliminate all negative possiblities, but no worries. He said I have to get off my "duff" and exercise more, so I'm starting a daily walking regiment tomorrow and will continue until I get to the gym more often.
I watch what I eat and don't drink much so I was confident of the results. I'm alittle over 6 feet and weigh 220 pounds, but believe it or not I'm probably only 10 to 15 pounds over weight. I'm very broad, you know big shoulders, hips and legs, so I carry the weight well.

This fellow who overdosed, well there has been no announcement of any funeral. I'm thinking they may keep it private or they are doing an autopsy. He has been well known to the legal community for some time.

A quick story about this dude.
I've known his family for my whole life. There were 4 brothers and one was my age, named Alan. He was a real dog, always on the prowl with any woman he could talk to. One day he invites me over to watch the hockey game and to drink some beer. Naturally I go over. When I get there Alan is with his girlfriend and another girl. He was trying to set me up, but I had no interest in this girl at all. I knew her and explained why I wasn't interested.(I can't remember why now) Everything was fine and after the second period Alan drove them home, but before he left he told me to stay and finish watching the game. I did know the family.
Well about 10 minutes after he left, his brother Glenn walks downstairs and sees me alone watching the game. I told him what happen and he laughed and then watched the game with me. A short time later he asks if I've ever done coke and then pulls out a bag of the stuff. We're talking about a bag you put a sandwich in.
We did some coke for the next hour,
That was the first and last time I ever did cocaine. Believe it or not, I hated being stoned on coke for some reason I can't explain.
He obviously didn't stop there!

And on to the rest of my day.

After my appointment my wife and I went golfing, the first time for me this year. I golfed alright considering it was windy and my first time. At least I hit the ball straight.
We then went for lunch and had a greek pizza and pop.
I even had a afternoon nap.
A day off can sure re-charge the batteries,

Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be lousy so we're going to go through some boxes in the basement. After 3 years the basement almost looks organized.

Bad news

Just got a phone call from a friend and he tells me that this fellow Glenn died of an drug overdose. He was my Dad's longtime business partners youngest son. He was around 38 years old.
I remember him being into cocaine around 20 years ago and hearing that he was into other drugs over the years.
The sad part for me is that my Dad's business partner now has lost 2 sons. The eldest died in a armed robbery incident where he was an armed guard who was shot in the back of the head. Two sons to bury is too much to live with.

Another guy in town who I kind of knew died of a brain aneurism on the weekend, he was 48.

One more fellow that was in my grade 7 and 8 class has colon cancer. I don't know of his condition but believe it or not, I'll find out if I make it to this funeral,(of the guy who died of the drug overdose) he is good friends with this family.

Tomorrow my Father gets a angiogram to see what's wrong and to see what they can do to fix things about this irregular heartbeat.

Friday I go to the doctors and find out the results of my blood test. Stuff like cholestrol, diabetes, protstrate. With all the news I've had this week, I don't feel optimistic.

Well at least my son gave me some good news, he just kissed me and told me he love me before going off to bed. There are good things around, you either be patient or have to search for them.

Observations

Wednesday evening and nothing really to say, but I'll try and write something.

Last night I played hockey and scored a really nice goal, it even brought on the catcalls from my buddies. That is two weeks in a row I've scored a nice goal, so does that mean maybe I'm getting better? Nah, just a fluke, but I'll enjoy it anyways!

Yesterday also was the 19th aniversary that my wife and I went on our first date. First, I remembered and does that make me less of a man. Everywhere I read says that men don't remember important dates, yet I do. Second I bought her some flowers and then she was nice to me. If I brought her flowers all the time, would she be nice to me all the time? I think not, but I'll try and bring her flowers alittle more often.

Tomorrow, my wife goes to a convention downtown. She stays in a hotel with her friend, that I can't stand. We live a 40 minute drive from there, yet she uses the rush hour traffic excuse. She used to do "no good" at these things all the time. I think she shouldn't stay there but she does against my wishes. So instead of saying something this year(which she ignores) I think in the summer I'm going to the area where I drive my truck. I'm going to golf and see a band and stay overnight without her. I wonder how she'll like that? Maybe then she will see my point!
All this and I still think if I'm over reacting.

Weather here has been really strange. Days where sun, rain, hail and snow are common place. Global warming maybe? I wish it would get warm for a while.

My alone time

With my wife shopping and the kid playing gamecube in another room, I'm alone with some time on my hands. I'm actually going to try and write this blog in one sitting, so here goes.

My friend and I were discussing the merits of a psa test and a digital exam.(this is for prostrates) This friend said a psa test was enough for detection and I say both are required. Truth be known he is shying away from having some doctor's finger stuck up his rear. This is not a comfortable situation for most men.
My argument was for 100% surety, both are required and besides he has 3 kids under the age of 11 and I think this is for more than ourselves at that point.
We agreed to disagree and he would get only a psa test as prostate problems don't run in his family.
Until this week!
His father was diagnosed with cancer of the prostate and he had surgery yesterday. I haven't talked to my buddy yet but I will soon. I hope he gets both test now!

I had to go and get my blood work done this morning. This was for everything, not just a psa test. I go to my doctors in 2 weeks for the results and a full physical. I am so much looking forward to that, but it's a day off work anyhow.

My parents are here visiting for the weekend, I mean visiting everyone. They lived in this area for their whole marriage(46 years) until last autumn, so they left a whole lifetime here as well.
As far a health goes, my father's torn achilles is healed and he has to go for a angiogram next month for a irregular heartbeat. He says he's had it for years, so it's little concern for him. All the medicine he is on for this heart thing is making him tired, which pisses him off, but he says he sleeps like a baby now every night. My mom is fine, which is really good to me.

Tomorrow is the 19th aniversary of the day I met my wife. Wow, I feel old! The only reason I remember that is because it the first of the month.
May had always been kind of weird for me. I have only been arrested once, in the month of May.(no conviction, thrown out) I've hurt myself badly at work twice in the month of May.(2 years apart) I met my wife and started dating her in May. I won a lawsuit in May and the list goes on.

Wow, I'm done this blog in one sitting.

Have a great weekend!

Too Long!

That last blog took me over a week to write. Interuptions and forgetfullness was the reason.
I forgot that I saved it as a draft, I thought I published it!
Sorry!

It's been one of those weeks, with work always taking up my time and my son's 11th birthday on Wednesday.
He had his cousins over then for dinner and today his buddies come over at 130.

Again, this took forever to write, as it is now Tuesday.

Well, I caught some sort of bug and now I'm working through it. I feel like crap! I didn't even go to hockey this evening, so according to my wife I must be sick.

Yesterday at work was my day from hell that I haven't had in a while and we also found out that we owe a whole bunch for income tax.(we can add that on to the list of excuses) That probably means that we won't go to far for a summer vacation, again adding to the list of excuses.

My son's birthday party went well and he was pleased. They went to a movie and I think that will be the last time he does that for his birthday. I was talking to a colleague at work and he took his kid to paint ball. I think we will go back to lazer wars or something like that, 11 year olds need some physical action.

Well I off to the couch for some R and R.

Saturday night

I'm just getting ready for bed and I thought I'd write a few things from the last couple of days.

Being alone doesn't bother me, but I have pretty much a social life involing couples or familes. I think I'm going to change that abit.

We watched all 3 Matrix movies this weekend. 1st one good, 2nd one alright and last one not very good. They ruined a good story line!

I've been watching this sex show while I type this. Why would anyone go on tv and talk about their sex problems? Is nothing sacred?

The couple in question are lesbians. It doesn't bother me abit, nor would it if it were a gay couple. My answer to that is, who cares?

I would also like to think that I'm not racist at all. Having said that, I still have to work on my ignorance of other cultures. It certainly can't hurt.

I'm having a full physical in 5 weeks and I'm a tad worried of what they may find. It's funny that I think that way, whatever happens, happens. And wouldn't it be better to find out what's wrong and try to fix it? I still worry alittle.

My main goal in the immediate future is to get 8 hours of sleep, just one night to start with. I think about that and it's what I want the most.

Wednesday, March 30, 2005

Oh well!

Another birthday for my wife has come and gone and once again it's about the only thing in my life I get stressed about.
In my upbringing we celebrated alittle, but didn't go overboard. We also stopped once we were in adulthood, though my mother still gets us something.
With the in-laws it is another story!
It turns out to be a birthday week and they go crazy with dinners and presents. It still happpens today!
My wife tells me not to buy too much, as we were on vacation last month and spent alot of money. I have no problem with that.
She then says that she would like a dozen pink roses since I never buy them for her. She also mentions a few other stuff, but nothing too major.
On the day of her birthday I go to the store to buy roses.(big suprise, NOT!) The roses are expensive and total crap. I'm not wasting money on dying roses.
I have a idea, I'll buy carnations. They're pink as well. I bring them home and give them to her and the first thing after thank you was "they're not roses."
How the hell can I win?

Last year was a milestone birthday for her. She tells me she doesn't want a party or a suprise one. Ok no problem!
Three weeks before she ask me what am I doing for her birthday. I tell her my ideas and she ask "aren't you having a party for me, I would like one." I said no, and the panic set in.
Now I'm planning a suprise party with less than three weeks until the big day.
I phone and e-mail all our friends and set something up. Because of the timing and a few other things I have to tell her about her party. She did tell me no suprise parties about 10 times.(no joke)
After telling her she was disappointed that I wasn't having a suprise party.
Again, what the hell am I supposed to do?

When the aftermath of her birthday is done, I usually tell her that I can't and won't read minds, we've been together too long for those sort of games.

Yikes....

My wife's birthday is on Monday, and I have no clue of what to get...A ride in shit creek may be upon me!

Starting to look at next years winter vacation destinations. Well I'm actually researching countries and resorts that I can re-call when at the travel agents in the summer. I'm not going to rely on the agents word for my next vacation.
We were discussing about going for 2 weeks, but I don't know if we can pull it off. The money is quite abit higher, but I may just say what the hell and book 2 weeks anyway. I deserve it!

I love it when work goes well. At the start of the year I decided to become more organized and professional at work. It paid off this week! Everything is smooth!

I'm supposed to get my vacation schedule for the summer tomorrow. Isn't that nice, almost April and they haven't told us about summer vacations. So much for advance planning.
If I get screwed again then I'm really going to lean at a 2 week winter vacation.

We went out for a bite to eat this evening. I love it when you eat something and the good taste stays with you a couple hours later.
This place makes the best french onion soup.
This same place was where my father took me for onion rings and chocolate shakes when I was 4 years old. I'm 41 now!

Talking about parents, we're visiting mine this weekend. I haven't seen them in almost 2 months and I'm looking forward to it. Plus away from here means no in laws all weekend.

Christmas Time

Sitting here at 1:30 in the afternoon on Christmas day, it is quiet for just alittle while.
Last evening we went to a 5pm mass, and then had a bunch of in-laws over for food and drink. 6 kids and 12 adults and everything went fine.
This morning my son woke up at 730am and we opened gifts. This year was good because we all picked out good gifts to each other, all were nicely thought out.
Cooked a big breakfast and wife made a trifle for this evening and kid went on computer to try out new games.
After my 1 hour power nap, my son went outside with his cousins and I'm here blogging. My wife is having a power nap now.
This evening is at the in-laws and everything will be way too loud, but that's alright, I get to leave at the end of the evening, just with my family.
Tomorrow we have my parents down and after dinner we will walk to my brother and sister in laws' for dessert.
Happy holidays to everyone!

Busy Christmas

We went to two Christmas parties on the weekend, all 3 of us.
First one is the people who lived across the street from where I grew up. My buddy's invite is "are you coming to drink my old man's beer." Well what do you think?
Anyways my parents came as they are close friends and my wife and son did as well.It was a good time, but I chipped a molar at midnight and I have to go to the dentist on tuesday to repair it, temporaily until a crown is ready in the new year. 600 bucks because I didn't look after my teeth when I was my son's age.
Sunday was at friends a 1/2 hour east of here. My buddy and I met when I was 7 years old, and now our wifes and sons are pals. I wish life was always that easy, too many friends leave your lifes because spouses don't get on very well. My buddy is so loud after a few drinks and this damn tooth and booming voice was giving me a headache. Oh well, I survived!
Anytime I see my buddies, the same question comes up, "how's your brother?" He used to hang with all of us, but he met this lady 5 years ago and practically vanished. Not just from his friends but his family as well, with no explanation. Oh well! It's his birthday today, so happy birthday big brother.
We just went over the food list for Christmas Eve and Boxing Day dinner, I figure it is going to cost a few hundred dollars, not including wine or beer. I already have my Kaluha for my eggnog so I am set.
Try it, kaluha and eggnog on ice, very yummy.

Christmas parties

Well the Christmas season is here and the parties have begun.
Last year we had 11 parties to go to in a 3 week span so we decided this year to cut back. Tonight was at my wife's old bosses' house, Nancy and her husband Mark. They are great host, always filling your face with munchies and making sure your glass is filled.
Problem with that is I like to drink and my wife is a lousy drinker.
I was driving so no drinking for me and now my wife is sleeping. She went to bed at 945pm! I'm writing this log at 11pm on a Saturday night and that's no fun. Oh well, next topic!
Started and finished my shopping today. Yea!
Went to the chiropractor today and I feel great. Losing abit of weight and a full adjustment does wonders.
They fit us for masks this week in case of a chemical spill. They told us that if we use the filters once that they would have to be replaced. If I use mine once, I'm geting another job.
I worked three days this week. I think every work week should be 3 days.
I got my passport picture signed by my chiroprator this week. She phoned me back because I go by my middle name and my first name was on the form. I know I was named after an uncle but why would my parents do that to me. I have had so many mix ups over the years, starting from early childhood to this day. Who cares how it sounds altogether, you only use the name people call you.
Passport ready next week and only 2 months until our trip to Jamaica. I played some Peter Tosh songs on the stereo for my son today to see if he liked reggae. He said it was pretty good. Later I put on some Bob Marley for him.
I went in the cd store the other day to browse. I don't always buy anything, but check to see if they have hard to come by cd's. Usually it is a older band that hasn't released alot of their records on to cd.
My buddy and I have been trying to find ZZtops' Deguallo and Fandango and an cd by Yes called "The Yes Album." I found Deguallo about a year ago and he couldn't believe it.
Well yesterday I found Fandango and the guy who runs the store told me about "The Yes Album." We're going to a party next week and I'm going to show him these, he will be pissed.
I know it sounds petty, but it is our little competition. He's a bigger fan of music than I am so will let him borrow and burn.
Time for another rum and coke, have a great weekend.

Old age sucks

A few words on getting old, it sucks.
I'm turning 41 next week and it got me thinking about life, or lack of it.
While I consider myself lucky in the genetics department, there are a few things I'll comment on.
Back hair, what's the deal with that? I'm not hairy at all, but hair is creeping up from the butt to the shoulders.
Ear and nose hair, again why? My son likes to point out my nose hair to me, he thinks it is funny.
Chiropractor's phone number is memorized while I have to look up friends numbers all the time.
My beard is not heavy at all, but the red in it is now grey.(again a certain 10 year old pointed it out)
My mother says to me that I'm not getting any younger, and I agree with her.
When looking at younger womens pictures in the newspaper with the boys, I say to myself that they would probably kill me now.
Prostrate checks.
People calling me "sir" or "Mister" and I respond without hesitation.
Staying in all weekend to me is "nice."

There is more, but it is better than the alternative!

Sidebar story to the "sir" incident.
2 summers ago we went whitewater rafting as a family for 5 days. One day after we went on the light rapids and went body surfing down some rapids, one of the guides came up to my son.
These guides are both male and female and ususlly in their mid 20s. This one guide came up to my son and ask him if he had any sweet hits.(nice waves and rapids) After my son's response he looked up at me and asked if I was having a good time "sir."
I smiled and answered politely, gritting my teeth.
The next day we went on a fishing and canoe trip and this guide was along that day. One other guide was a older gentleman around 60 years old, "the veteran."
The young guide had multiple piercings(huge hole ones) and tons of tatoos. Along his back was a bunch of Chinese letters.
I asked him what they meant and he was answering. Meanwhile the "veteran" was listening in to his answers. He gave us some Chinese proverbs and I smiled. He asked me why I was smiling.
I said "how do know the Chinese guy didn't lie to you and put on your back, I'm a fucking asshole."
He was shocked(which isn't easy with these guys) and the older guide was doing a belly laugh. The "veteran" wondered that as well, but never asked.
I apoligized and told him why I did it, you know the "sir" stuff.
I bought him a beer when we got back later in the day.
He thought it was funny when he was drinking the beer.
